We don’t operate a physical test laboratory — and we’d rather be honest about our process than pretend otherwise. Here is exactly what we do.

What we research for every product

1. Manufacturer documentation — specifications, installation manuals, and warranty terms, read directly from the manufacturer’s own published documents.
2. Independent flush performance — MaP (Maximum Performance) test scores where available, the industry’s independent measure of flush power.
3. Owner experiences — large numbers of verified purchaser reviews across retailers, looking for consistent patterns in noise, cleaning, installation difficulty, and reliability.
4. Value analysis — price relative to features, build quality, and warranty.

How our ratings work

Products in our buying guides carry an editorial rating out of 10 reflecting our judgment on: flush performance (30%) — MaP scores and flush-system design; build quality and materials (25%); value for money (20%); ease of installation and maintenance (15%) — based on manuals and owner reports; warranty and parts availability (10%). Labels like Editor’s Pick and Budget Pick mark the products we’d recommend first in their category. No manufacturer pays for placement, ratings, or reviews.

What we don’t do

We don’t claim to have physically tested products we haven’t touched. We don’t publish scores we can’t explain. We don’t let affiliate commissions influence rankings — relationships are disclosed on every page containing affiliate links.

Updates

We revisit our guides regularly and every article displays its last-updated date. A changed date means the content was genuinely re-checked and revised.
